Event Date:

16th century Pamphlets held at the Old Palace

The Old Palace, York Minster

9am - 5pm weekdays, admission free

The French Wars of Religion (1562-1598) were of fundamental importance to the course of British History: the conflict has a highly topical issue on this side of the Channel, as shown by the pamphlets in the Old Palace. The newsletters, propaganda and libels survive in originals or translations from the French, and were mainly printed in London. The audience for events in France was great because of their ramifications for the delicate political and religious situation in Elizabethan England.

The exhibition is organised by Dr. Eric Durot (University of York) and York Minster Library.
