Castles in Medieval and Early Modern Literature

Lancaster Suite, Lancaster Castle, March 5, 2022 - March 5, 2022
Deadline for submission/application: March 1, 2022

Our annual one-day conference at Lancaster Castle, run as part of the Northern Premodern Seminar, will focus on the significance of castles in medieval and early modern culture. What does a castle represent? How does the construction, maintenance, restoration, defence, invasion or appropriation of a castle change the relationship between those inside and outside its walls? We invite proposals for short papers (15-20 mins) on castles – medieval or early modern – from a range of disciplines including literature, performance, history and heritage studies, archeology and architecture. Please send proposals (title, your contact details and outline of up to 250 words) to a.g.findlay@lancaster.ac.uk by 1 March 2022.

Papers will be selected to form 3 panels to complement our plenary lecture
