In this interview, the SRS’s John Gallagher speaks with Dr James Fox (University of Cambridge), an art historian who has reached a wide public audience with his popular art history TV programmes for the BBC. James recalls how he started by putting his art history knowledge to work as a TV researcher, before taking his place in front of the camera and creating programmes on a wide range of subjects. He discusses the processes of pitching, writing & researching, shooting, and editing material for TV, and reflects on the choices and compromises involved in putting research on TV.
