The SRS supports global movements in the cause of racial justice. We do not tolerate racism within our organisation and are committed to working towards equality for all who experience prejudice. We are committed to social justice. We stand in solidarity with our members, colleagues, students, and friends who have had their lives blighted by racism.
We strive to be an inclusive Society, but we need to do more. We will seek more ways to encourage and to amplify scholarship on people of colour in the Renaissance. We also pledge to reflect upon all our practices and work out how we can better help to support Black students and scholars at all levels and across all our activities – our publications, Fellowships scheme, grants, website, and events – and bring about real, lasting change.
This statement is a first step on a much longer journey.
